The Whitlam Institute is located in Western Sydney University in Parramatta South Campus.

Who is Whitlam?
Gough Whitlam was the 21st Prime Minister of Australia, who lead a Labor Government from 1972-1975. Over the three years in the government, his administration introduced major reforms:
- Universal health insurance scheme (Medicare)
- Abolition of university fees
- Needs-based funding for schools
- Establishment of the Family Court and no-fault divorce
- Racial Discrimination Act 1975
- First steps toward Aboriginal land rights

Why is this place important?
The building is a heritage building that was constructed in the early 19th century, as a home and school for orphaned girls.The institute was established in the year 2000 under the agreement between the University and Gough Whitlam with the aim to promote equity, involving all Australians in decision-making, and lifting people's talents.
